The World System is the fundamental structure governing the existence, rules, and lifecycle of the world. It operates beyond human understanding, functioning according to its own logic and "programming", independent of human will or morality.
It is responsible for maintaining the balance of the world, correcting anomalies, and when necessary, resetting the entire world.
Overview
The World System behaves similarly to an automated system:
- It follows fixed rules rather than intent or emotion
- It identifies irregularities as "bugs"
- It attempts to correct those irregularities through systemic processes
Humans are not treated as individuals within this system, but rather as components within it, comparable to data or processes.
Overseer and System Cycle
The World System operates on a cyclical structure:
- Once every million years, a new governing entity is established
- These entities are known as the Sephira
- The Sephira compete to become the overseer of the world
The overseer maintains balance within the system. If no overseer exists, the system becomes unstable.
System Failure and Reset
If the World System detects an anomaly such as the absence of an overseer, it enters a failure state.
This results in:
- Breakdown of normal world function
- Emergence of "glitches"
- Initiation of a full system reset
The reset process involves:
- Complete destruction of the current world
- Erasure of all existing life
- Reinitialization of the system
Reset Mechanisms
Ash
Ash is a key component of the reset process.
- A substance that spreads globally
- Disrupts life force and causes fatal illness
- Gradually destroys both life and the world itself
It functions as a systemic tool for world-wide erasure.
Anti-Virus Entities
The World System deploys entities described as an anti-virus:
- Their purpose is to eliminate remaining irregularities
- They target surviving humans (considered "bugs")
Deletion is literal, not metaphorical. Humans are treated as removable data.
Agents of the System
The system can also utilize individuals as components:
- Humans can be remade into part of the system
- These individuals act as "observers" or "eyes"
These agents allow the system to track and eliminate anomalies.
Relationship to Humanity
From the perspective of the World System:
- Humans are not central to existence
- They are treated as system elements rather than individuals
- Their survival is irrelevant to system stability
This establishes a fundamental conflict between human values and systemic function.
Relationship to Origin
The World System may be connected to a higher construct known as Origin:
- Origin is described as the creator of the world and its laws
- Its exact relationship to the World System is unknown
Possibilities include:
- Origin created the World System
- The World System created Origin
- Both are aspects of the same entity
This places the World System within a larger, incomprehensible framework.
Story
This contains details about plotlines. Do not proceed unless you want to be spoiled. |
Blue Reflection
In the original timeline, the World System operates under the governance of an overseer selected from the Sephira. One million years prior, Daath became the overseer, maintaining the world's balance.
In 2027, Shirai Hinako defeats Daath, removing the world's overseer. This creates a critical instability within the World System. As a result, the system enters an abnormal state and initiates a full reset of the world. This reset marks the end of the original timeline and leads into a new iteration of the world.
Blue Reflection Ray
Following the reset triggered in the original timeline, a new world iteration begins. Within this timeline, the World System continues to function, but signs of instability begin to emerge.
Throughout 2027, emotional disturbances and phenomena linked to the Common intensify. By late summer, the boundary between the Common and reality begins to collapse, indicating systemic imbalance. Shortly after, Ash begins to fall across the world.
The appearance of Ash suggests that the World System has entered a corrective phase, likely responding to irregularities or incomplete stabilization following the reset.
Blue Reflection Sun
By 2028, the effects of the World System's corrective processes have escalated significantly.
Ash has spread globally, acting as a destructive force that alters both the environment and living beings. At the same time, rare individuals begin manifesting special abilities as a result of exposure to these phenomena known as Eroded.
Efforts are made by various groups to understand and counteract the Ash, but its origin remains unknown within the world itself. These events indicate that the World System is actively progressing toward large-scale correction or restructuring, with humanity caught within the process.
Blue Reflection Tie
Despite the reset nearing completion, remnants of the world persist. Oasis is created as a temporary refuge, allowing survivors to exist outside the system's intended outcome. This leads to the reset being "stuck at 99%". The World System continues its efforts to fully erase these anomalies. Survivors are treated as "bugs", and the system actively attempts to delete them to complete the reset process. Kinjou Yuki is sent into Oasis as an "agent" of the World System.
World System Hierarchy
The following hierarchy is constructed from observed patterns and explicit references within the series. Given the limited and often non-comprehensive explanations of the World System, this structure represents an informed interpretation rather than a confirmed framework.

- Physical World
- Humans
- Ash
- Reflectors
- Unique abilities
- Interaction with system layers
- Isolated Sub-Domain
- Oasis
- Artificially created refuge
- Exists outside intended system outcome
- Sustained through external intervention
- Contains survivors (system "bugs")
- Oasis
- Cognitive & Emotional Layer
- Emotions
- Basis of identity

Trivia
- The World System includes both observable and intangible components, making it difficult to define in purely physical terms.
- Emotional and memory-based phenomena are treated as integral parts of reality rather than separate abstractions.
