Ether is a fundamental energy source in Blue Reflection used by Reflectors to perform actions within the Common and during combat. It is described as a form of emotional energy derived from human feelings.

Overview

Ether is the primary power that enables Reflectors to fight, use abilities, and interact with Fragments. It is intrinsically tied to human emotion, acting as the medium through which feelings are converted into usable strength. Unlike Fragments, which are crystallisations of specific emotions, Ether represents a broader, more continuous energy source that Reflectors rely on for all actions.

Definition

Ether is explicitly described as a form of emotional energy:

We Reflectors fight using Ether, which is basically emotional energy.
~ Shijō Raimu (Lime)

It functions as a universal resource for Reflectors, comparable to a life-sustaining force required to perform any action within the Common.

Think of Ether like air: you need it to do anything.
~ Shijō Yuzuki (Yuzu)

Usage

In gameplay, Ether is represented as the "Reflect" gauge in the lower left corner. Ether is essential for enabling "Overdrive", which allows characters to perform multiple skills in a single turn.

Players can restore Ether through the command ETHER CHARGE. This will also restore a small portion of MP.

Supporting Characters Fragments can also restore Ether. The earliest Fragment that can be used to restore Ether is Joy of Devotion from Nishida Sanae obtainable in Chapter 3.

Fragment Interaction

Ether is heavily consumed when interacting with Fragments, particularly during stabilization.

Because stabilizing a Fragment has you connecting directly with someone's emotions, it uses the most energy.

Reflector Abilities

Ether enables Reflectors to:

In the presence of powerful entities such as Sephirot, Ether can be used outside of the Common, in the real world.

Relation to Fragments

Although closely related, Ether and Fragments serve different roles:

Concept Description
Fragment A crystallised piece of a person’s emotions
Ether The energy derived from emotions used to power actions

Fragments provide **power and growth**, while Ether provides the **means to act**.
